Cosmetic dentistry allows your dentist to completely transform the look of your smile, fixing any of a wide variety of cosmetic flaws that you might be dealing with. However, the field is so expansive that it can be hard for the average person to navigate.
The best part of a cosmetic dental consultation is being able to get a sense of your dentist and what they’re capable of. If you have one coming up, however, you might not know what questions would be best to ask. If you’re curious, here are some you should probably consider.
What Procedure is Best for Me?
If you’re coming in for a consultation you might have a treatment in mind, but the best thing that you can do a lot of the time is to ask your dentist’s opinion about what would be the best fit for you. Cosmetic dentistry is broad, and one problem can be approached in a variety of different ways.
Tell your dentist what problem you’re looking to fix, and ask your dentist what procedures could help you with it. This is a good way to learn more about cosmetic treatments, but also to subtly gauge which treatments the dentist you’re talking to specializes in. After all, they’ll be much more likely to recommend a procedure that they’re comfortable with over one that they aren’t.
Can I See Pictures?
In a similar vein, most dentists will have before and after pictures of patients that they’ve seen. They take these pictures for marketing purposes, and they will be happy to show them to you if you ask. This will not only give you an idea of what your dentist is capable of, but also a realistic expectation for what any given cosmetic treatment can do.
How Long Will It Take?
Many cosmetic treatments can be completed within a single session, but others will take several appointments over the course of weeks to finish. Knowing what you’re getting into before you begin cosmetic treatment is important so you can be prepared to see it through to the end.
Of course, if you have any other questions during your consultation, you shouldn’t be shy. Your dentist will be happy to answer them for you.
