Understanding How Dental Insurance Works
To understand how your dental insurance coverage works, there are a few different words that you’ll need to commit to memory:
- The maximum is a capped-off amount of money that your insurance will pay over the course of a calendar year for your dental treatments.
- The deductible is a set amount of money that your insurance company will require you to pay out of your pocket before your benefits kick-in.
- The premium is the monthly or annual amount that you pay for benefits.
What Does Your Dental Insurance Plan Cover?
It’s important to keep in mind that not all dental insurance plans offer the same coverage. So, if you want to learn whether yours will cover a certain treatment that you’re getting, it’s a good idea to contact them directly and ask. However, most insurance companies base their coverage off of a 100-80-50 structure. This means that they cover 100 percent of the cost of preventive care like checkups and cleanings, 80 percent of basic treatments like cavity fillings, and 50 percent of more invasive procedures like tooth extractions.
We Offer In-Network Savings & Welcome Out-of-Network Providers
Our dental office is in-network with several major dental insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield and Delta Dental. That means that we’ve negotiated discounted rates and fees with these companies to help pass on savings to you. If you’re out-of-network with our dental office, we’re still happy to file claims on your behalf and help you make the most out of your benefits.
